A dancer, a dreamer, a dramatist, a writer, a director, a social worker – meena datt is a household name among the South Asian community residing in Houston and surrounding areas.
Meena is much loved and admired as host of two of the most popular radio shows, “Music of India” and “Ghungroo”, both airing on Saturdays and Sundays 7:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. respectively on KCHN 1050 AM. Both shows have been on the air for over twenty years and continue to enjoy the number one position in the entire USA.
Meena has chaired several very successful fundraising events. She has emceed innumerable Star shows from Bollywood, and several musical events from India and Pakistan. She has also emceed and promoted several community organization programs for Pratham, Sewa, Ekal Vidyalaya, IACAN, Mahatma Gandhi Library, Kids Meals and Arya Samaj. She has organized two Beauty Contests, five Fashion Shows, written and directed nineteen plays and given numerous dance performances. Her documentary ‘Yatri’ on immigrant Indians in Houston was aired on PBS.
She actively volunteers with several charities including serving on the board of Pratham, The Indian Doctor’s Charity Clinic, The Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County and Houston International Festival. She has freely given much time and effort to produce documentaries, do visual introductions and voice-overs for Arya Samaj & Pratham.
Sa Re Ga Ma, the largest music company of India, has released three CDs showcasing voice-over done by Meena Datt to date. She was the producer and voice-over for renowned artist Kartik Trivedi’s promotional DVD.
Meena loves to be involved with the Houston community at large and the community simply adores her. A winner of several awards and an artist of great caliber, immense integrity and warmth, Meena Datt is this community’s precious pride.
